Today we went through the historical Barreiro. Now deindustrialized and deeply mischaracterized. We did it with Vanessa Almeida and Álvaro Monteiro.
Barreiro had about 200 associations – sports, cultural, recreational, guaranteed Álvaro Monteiro.
In Barreiro there were the CUF, the Workshops of South and Southeastern, and before that dozens of cork factories. Thousands of workers from all over the country, Alentejo, Algarve. And for that reason all the framing and repression organs of the dictatorial state had “barracks” insured there. But that did not prevent it from being the only land where the democratic movement won the elections for deputies throughout the history of salazarist electoral farces.
To recall (with nostalgia) Álvaro Monteiro, or to learn the value of the Resistance?
