“FAREWELL COUTRY AND FAMILY” itinerary

26 of April of 2025 - 10h30
LISBOA

Based on the temporary exhibition “FAREWELL COUTRY AND FAMILY”, which will be on show at the Aljube Museum in 2022, we will take a tour of Lisbon, looking at the dynamics and tensions between repression and resistance to sexual and gender diversity during the dictatorship and after the Revolution, right up to the present day.

This route seeks to broaden our understanding of how the city’s geography can reveal the history and memory of those whose repression conditioned daily life, perpetuating oppressive and discriminatory practices and discourses, marking Portuguese society to this day.

On the day that marks Lesbian Visibility Day and in the context of the celebrations for April 25 and the ten-year anniversary of the Aljube Museum, we invite you to reflect on the life stories, the daily resistance and the emblematic places that tear at the fabric of the city and open the way to building a democratic society.

Approximate duration: 2 hours
