Come and see the Aljube Museum’s long term exhibition Resistance and Freedom, and the stories of resistance to dictatorship in Portugal until the revolution of April 25th, 1974.

The Museum’s long-term exhibition presents visitors on floor -1 with an archaeological exhibit featuring vestiges found here. On floor 0, the memorial honoring political prisoners, the history of the building and the temporary exhibition “Adeus Pátria e Família”. On floor 1, the characterization of the Portuguese dictatorial regime (1926-1974), its means of repression and oppression (the Censorship, the police, and the political courts).
On level 2, the resistance of the oppositions (semi-legal and clandestine), imprisonment, torture, and isolation camps.
On level 3, the anti-colonial struggle and the independent liberation movements, the overthrow of the dictatorship and the 25th of April, 1974.
